Energy Efficiency Grants Awarded
Being green is a hot topic right now. Everyone wants to reduce their carbon footprint. And Orange County is going to do just that with the energy efficiency grants they were just awarded.
This free grant money is from a $3.5 million grant that was awarded to Orange County through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and totaled $370,000 in federal stimulus money. This money is awarded to six school districts and seven municipalities in order to help them find and implement ways to to improve energy efficiency in their buildings.
Several energy efficiency grants will be used for energy audits to find ways to lower utility costs for public buildings. And 14 grants ranging from $400 to $100,000 have bee approved for those that applied. This included the Warwick School District, the Newburgh School District, and the Middletown School District.
An additional $60,000 in matching grants will be distributed by the counties for other municipalities and school districts.
