Grant Programs for Assistance with Utility Bills
Grant programs are available for those having difficulty paying for utility bills. You may qualify for assistance depending on how many people live in your home, where you live, and how much money you make. For example, a family consisting of four members making less than $44,100 per year would be eligible under the Neighbor to Neighbor Grant Program in Ohio.
Currently, the Dollar Energy Fund has programs to help with utility bills in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
The Neighbor to Neighbor Grant Program offers assistance to those who may not qualify for the LIHEAP Grant Program. Customers who are eligible for the Neighbor to Neighbor Program will have gross (before tax) income that is between 0 percent and 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines.
It is also important that you have made a sincere effort to pay your utility bills. You must have paid at least $100 toward your gas and/or electric utility bill in the 90 days prior to applying. however, if you are over the age of 62, a reduced payment of $75 dollars within the last 90 days is acceptable.
